Faith Got Me To Harvard
This is my story of faith.
When you know God has a plan, don’t waste time or energy fretting.
You know the song that goes “when Jesus says yes, nobody can say no” #IssaFact.
For about a month and a half, I’d been planning a trip to Harvard for my organization (I lead the African Students Association at my College).
This was ASA’s first ever off-campus trip, so we were the guinea pigs/trailblazers/lab rats lol and basically had to figure it out as we went. It was also the first time this conference received a student group.
I knew God had signed off on the trip because all I experienced was favor.
From the invitation to attend the conference, to receiving $1600 in sponsorship and everything in between.
There were many hiccups along the way though and silly me felt like I had to fight for what was already mine.
So I fought.
I wasted my energy though.
I mean, people kept telling me “no” and I wasn’t having it.
The week of the trip, Harvard reached out to me saying they’d need to receive our payment (check) before we arrived or else the registration price would go up and blah blah blah.
I shouldn’t have. It was a waste of anxiety.
Then, my college was giving me such a hard time. I was told at “no” at least 15 times in one day.
“There’s absolutely no way you’re getting the check by Thursday. You might as well make arrangements to cancel the trip” (something like that).
“4 people have to sign off on the check and it usually takes at least 3-4 weeks, so I don’t know what you want.”
“People are busy and have other things to do. Checks usually sit on the desk for 2 weeks.”
“I understand your frustration but, I can’t make any promises.”
“Come back in an hour she’s on her lunch break.”
“We’ll try, but it most likely isn’t going to happen.”
And I’m over here like BRO, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
As ASA President, my members were depending on me. They were all packed and ready to go.. little did they know, we still weren’t set to go.
So I prayed.. well Erica prayed because I couldn’t. I had allowed my frustrations to take over. She reminded me that it was finished and I just had to walk right into my blessing. “You’ve gotten through this before.”
On Wednesday, I cried in every office. #WasteOfTears
On Thursday, I camped out (faithfully and patiently) in every office.
By 4:40pm on Thursday, my advisor emailed me saying “your check is ready for pick up”
You know dangggg well I danced up in that office like “let me tell you about my God.”
On Friday morning, we set out to leave.
This is my story of faith.
I didn’t cancel our plans because I had faith that God would make a way! It literally looked like there was no way we’d make it. I almost believed the naysayers.
We all got to Harvard in peace and had a PHENOMENAL time.
Somebody say, JESUS!!
Operation #GoBackHome & develop Africa.
So, now that you’ve gotten the ok from Abba. Don’t fret. Walk into it. He has gone before you.
Say it with me, “He has gone before me and I will not be afraid.”
It might look impossible.
It’s “never been done before.”
But, hey, the God that you serve is able to do, undo, redo and speed up.
I spent Thursday morning firing prayers ahead of my day praying that God would give the decision makers a spirit of urgency and let me tell you, they were urgent!!
From Wednesday to Thursday, everyone involved in the signing of this check started moving!
“How did everything work out?”
“Here’s the check.”
“Do you need me to scan it and email it to you as well?”
God is good. Nobody can tell me otherwise.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
